Description
Melick & Porter, a prominent insurance defense litigation firm, seeks a knowledgeable Civil Litigation Attorney. The Associate will work alongside a team of collegial litigators led by nationally acclaimed partners. Candidates will gain hands-on experience defending a wide range of complex litigation disputes. We are looking for someone with a dual Maine and Massachusetts or New Hampshire license who has 3 to 5 years of litigation experience. Prior courtroom experience is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct thorough legal research to support case preparation and strategy development.
- Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, discovery motions, and settlement agreements.
- Attend and conduct depositions, actively participating in case development.
- Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients while maintaining strong communication with all parties involved.
- Prepare for and attend court appearances by organizing case files and gathering necessary evidence.
- Collaborate with senior attorneys on complex cases and provide support during trials.
- Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations relevant to tort law.
- Maintain accurate records of case progress and client communications.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Active license to practice law in Maine. Dual license to practice in Massachusetts and/or New Hampshire preferred.
- 3-5 years of litigation experience.
- Outstanding writing and oral communication skills.
- Capable of adapting to a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to team efforts.
- A passion for excellence in the practice of law
This position is hybrid and you will must be willing to work from one of Melick & Porter's offices as needed. This will be discussed in further detail in the interview process.
